“Stress is not what happens to us. It’s our response to what happens, and response is something we can choose.”-Maureen Killoran
Are you looking forward to spending time with family and friends this Christmas season?
Whether you are entertaining at home or traveling for the New Year, make focused choices to keep your stress level in check. Here are three strategies to find more joy and less stress this holiday season.
- Focus on the reason for the season. Choose giving. Gifts come in many forms, and some are unwrapped like the gift of a hug, smile or time.
- Set boundaries with yourself and others. Choose excellence. Avoid the temptation of being a super hero during the season. Do what you can and leave the rest. No one likes a cranky host/hostess who strives for perfection.
- Find joy in the little things. Celebrate the season. One year I was so overwhelmed with work and family obligations the mere thought of processing over 100 Christmas cards stressed me out. I made a decision to pass on sending cards that year with zero guilt. Having time to just be IN JOY with the season by ringing the salvation army bell or buying a coat for a needy family or watching a Christmas movie.
